Abstract Ocean Landscape Painting – A Force of Nature in Western Australia
This mixed-media abstract painting is an artistic representation of the powerful and beautiful ocean near Denmark and Walpole in Western Australia. Drawing from my memories of this stunning beach, I deconstruct and reassemble the scene, capturing the vibrant sunlight reflecting off the water, large waves crashing on the white sandy beach, and rugged cliffs surrounding the shore. The painting also depicts a personal moment—my children building a dam in a stream where water flows back into the ocean during low tide. This beach, named "Beautiful but Dangerous," is a true force of nature.
The natural color palette features warm copper, calming blues, and turquoise, all flowing together harmoniously. Playful golden textured details add depth and interest to the composition.

Materials: This painting is created using alcohol inks and acrylics on Nara paper—a high-quality, synthetic paper developed specifically for art. Its non-porous surface allows the inks to flow freely without absorbing fluid, preventing buckling. The paper is thick and durable, making it resistant to tearing.
Alcohol inks are highly pigmented, alcohol-based inks that can be applied in various ways, much like oils, acrylics, or watercolors. By layering the inks and using different techniques, I can create depth and movement within the piece. The unpredictable nature of these inks allows for a unique creative process that embraces both control and spontaneity. This dynamic quality is one of the reasons I love working with alcohol inks!
The painting is finished with multiple layers of UV protection and varnish, ensuring its colors remain vivid and protected from fading over time.
